Fighter Babe Brittney Elkin Returns to the Cage this Friday

Written By Unknown on Monday 11 August 2014 | 10:00

Fighter babe Brittney “Big Bird” Elkin (1-1) returns to the cage this Friday night in the co-main event for Prize Fighting Championship presented by Fight to Win Promotions at the National Western Complex in Denver, Colorado. Fighting out of Denver, Colorado by way of Gillette, Wyoming and representing 303 Training Center, Grudge Training Center and Just Results Gym we recently caught up with Brittney prior to her big fight this Friday for the interview below to learn a little more about her.

How did you get involved in MMA and how long have you been training?

-I was cocktailing at a local bar in Gillette, WY. My boss was friends with a fight promoter out of South Dakota, it was bikini night, I had an athletic body and he approached me and suggested I should try the sport and that's all it took. I was 23 when I took my first fight in Spearfish, South Dakota beating Ryann Baustadt (a flaunt girl at the time).

Where are you currently training, and what's a typical training week like for you?

-Fight camp schedule I feel like I am all over the place. I work as a daytime bartender so I get my training in when I can around that schedule. Monday, 5am conditioning at Just Results Fitness, go to work 10-5, 6pm kickboxing at Grudge Training Center followed by my favorite wrestling class. Tuesday, I start with Gi BJJ class after work followed by Randori (basically a grapple spar) at 303 Training Center. Wednesday, first I meet with coach Justin Salas at Grudge for a mitt session, 6pm back at 303 TC for competition class and I teach a fitness class at 7pm. Thursday, I like to call my "rest day" but I usually show up to No Gi class and tech spar at 303. Friday, I get to have a private with head coach professor Tony Basile for an hour, I get to Grudge around 11 and take a boxing and wrestling class. Saturday, I’ve been sparing at Grudge. Sunday, I do sparring at 303 TC if I don’t need a day off for rest.

Tell us about your upcoming fight, who you're fighting and where?

-I am fighting Latoya Walker (2-0) from Texas at the National Western Complex on August 15th on the PFC Card (Prize Fighting Championship). I plan to use my distance to set up my power. I have been working very hard on my footwork and movement and I feel very confident in my game plan.

What is your best experience as a fighter? What is your worst?

-Just the day to day life. I get to meet people I look up to, spend time with them in the gym, and then I get to fight them too. I feel very thankful for the opportunities I’ve had and dream of the ones that are coming in the future. I think to sum it up; my best experience is living out my dream.

-The worst is being a tall human that is hungry in a small weight class :) I enjoy all parts of fighting just not a huge fan of weight cuts.

What advice would you give to other women who are reading this interview and want to get started in MMA?

-My advice is to believe in your decisions, and believe in yourself. I believe this sport helped me get my life together and made me a more complete person. No one but yourself can take you to another level. Your instinct is your best friend and if it sets off it’s probably for a reason.

What or who are your inspirations in MMA and life?

-I feel like I’ve been led down this path and it has been good to me. I’m inspired by the sport because it has helped me find a lifestyle and routine which translates in to my home life. I’m very competitive and in this sport you are always growing as an athlete. Every fight and fight camp is different, I still show up to practice and get that wow factor. I know that when I do it, I am happy.

Who are your favorite MMA fighters?

-I have many favorites but I love watching Johny Hendricks, Anthony Pettis, Cain Velasquez and I’ve always loved Frankie Edgar.

How do you enjoy your free time when not training or fighting?

-Honestly, my favorite things to do is either come home at night and sit on my back patio with a small fire, I always love the mountains, or hoping on the back of a friends bike and going for a ride. I also for whatever reason like to wander solo through places like the flea market and people watch.

For those who will inquire we have a couple questions for the male readership as well.

Are you single?

-I am so single :) Yes I find it hard to date men in camp and lately I haven't put much time between camps. I’m single but completely content flying solo for now.

What do you look for in a guy?

-I want to be with a Man if I am in a relationship with a guy. My rule is they have to be able to 1) grow a beard 2) hang a shelf and 3) reach the stuff on the shelf. So far I haven't found someone that fits these requirements :)

What are your turn-ons?

-I like beards :) tall, dark and handsome. It’s sexy to me when a guy takes care of himself but keeps that "alpha male" mentality, spontaneous and has to be a little crazy.

What are your turnoffs?

-Lazy unmotivated guys and neediness.

What would you say is your best feature?

-I’m crazy motivated and equally as stubborn. If I want something I go after it.

Lastly before we let you go we would love to hear about your future plans and let you send some shout outs.

Any future plans or dreams?

-I’m working on my personal trainer’s license trying to leave my career as a bartender into a more suiting one. I want to extend that license later into nutrition and just keep going where it takes me. I feel like I’m on the right course.

Any shout outs you would like to make?

-My mom, sisters, dad and brother in law for helping me live my dreams. My son Bronson. The Dungrollers, my first sponsor I ever had and they still come to all my fights. EzTrim, a company that sponsors me and helps me make wise "business" decisions.

Thank you very much for your time Brittney and good luck on fight night! Click here to purchase tickets to Brittney’s fight and send her some shout outs on Facebook and Twitter!
